Useful information for travelers

When to go to Malaysia?

Malaysia has an equatorial climate, which means high temperatures and humidity all year round, with frequent rains, especially during the monsoon season. In general, the best time for a holiday in Malaysia is from March to October on the west coast (Penang, Langkawi), and from May to September on the east coast (Perhentian, Redang, Tioman).

If you want an urban and cultural experience, Kuala Lumpur can be visited in any season — the city has indoor attractions and vibrant atmosphere whatever the weather. For hiking in mountainous areas like Cameron Highlands, cooler temperatures make March-April and August-September excellent times to visit.

Indicative prices

Malaysia is an affordable and versatile destination. Street food costs around 1 to 3 euros per serving, and meals in local restaurants range between 4-7 euros. Bottled water costs less 0.5 euro, and a local beer (Tiger or Anchor) around 1.5 euros.

Public transport is cheap and efficient — a metro ride in Kuala Lumpur costs less 1 euro, and short taxi rides start from 2-3 euros, if using applications such as Grab. Accommodation starts from 10-15 euros/night for hostels and arrive at 100+ euros for hotels of 4-5 stars.

Accommodation options

In cities like Kuala Lumpur, George Town or Melaka, you can find a wide range of boutique hotels, hostels or international chains. Langkawi and Perhentian offers from beach bungalows to luxury resorts overlooking the sea. In mountainous areas such as Cameron Highlands or Sabah, traditional chalets and guesthouses bring an extra touch of authenticity.

For a special experience, you can opt for eco-lodges in the tropical forests of Borneo, where you will sleep in the middle of nature and have the opportunity to explore the unique biodiversity of the region.

Transport in Malaysia

Malaysia has a well-established road and rail network. ETS trains connect major cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, Penang and Padang Besar. AirAsia low-cost airline is very popular for fast and cheap domestic flights.

Within cities, public transport is modern: metro (MRT/LRT), buses, and ride-sharing applications. Grab is the most used transport app, working similarly to Uber. In tourist areas, scooters or bicycles can be easily rented for local explorations.
